the Marching Colonels line up on Maroon Night

Marching Colonels begin their season with band camp, which is the week before classes start in August. Band camp is required for all students in the course. The schedule is planned in conjunction with mandatory freshman orientation: “Big E Welcome” events.

Big E Events in conjuction with Band Week

The Marching Colonels are a vibrant and important part of the campus life, and we participate in both Traditions Night and the Turner Gate events. In addition, the schedule is set to allow students to get to know their roommates and new classmates during meals and other activities. Freshmen students will be given the opportunity to participate in the Special Populations Connections (Honors, specific colleges, etc.) orientations and open house. Some events, such as Zero Shades of Gray and Maximize your Buzz will be made available via video for freshmen band students.

What do I need for Band Camp?

You!, your instrument, comfortable athletic shoes and plenty of water. The Marching Colonels provide sousaphones, marching baritones, mellophones, tenor saxophones, percussion (snare, tenors, bass drum, cymbals) and guard equipment, along with a limited supply of other instruments. We will also provide you with music and flip folders. All equipment will be obtained when you check in.

When do we move in?

Marching Colonel students move in to the dorms early for free. Move-in for all band members is Sunday, August 11, 2024 in the morning. If you are traveling from a significant distance, let us know and we can arrange for you to move in later in the day.

Can I get a head start on music?

We are currently working on posting parts on the course Blackboard site. Once you have registered for MUS 256 and have your EKU ID and password, you will be able to access the class site and all the materials specific to the course. In the meantime, you can check out the parts on the Marching Colonel for a Day Music page. These are many traditions that you can get a head start on!
