Whether you aspire to manage a health care facility or gain experience in a specific health care discipline, EKU’s health care administration program prepares you for a rewarding career in this growing field. Health care administrators plan, direct, coordinate, and supervise the delivery of health care services. Additionally, graduates of the HIIM concentration are prepared to take the Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA) certification exam.
According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS), employment of medical and health care managers is projected to grow 28 percent from now until to 2032, much faster than the average for all occupations. Approximately 54,700 openings for medical and health services managers are projected each year.

EKU’s health care administration curriculum prepares students for a variety of rewarding career options as well as graduate and professional school programs. Bachelor of health care administration courses include legal issues in health care, health care reimbursement, health care quality management, and health services research methods.
A minimum of 120 credits are required to graduate, including 42 upper-division credits.

Students may transfer up to 90 hours of credit from accredited institutions. Please note that a minimum of 30 credit hours in this degree program must be completed at Eastern Kentucky University.
Previously earned credits must be reviewed upon admission to EKU for appropriate articulation.

All applicants must provide an application and evidence of appropriate scholastic achievement through prior educational experience.
Please note that certain degree programs have special admission requirements. Admission to the University does not mean automatic admission to all degree programs.

The Health Information Management accreditor of Eastern Kentucky University’s College of Health Sciences is the Commission on Accreditation for Health Informatics and Information Management Education (CAHIIM). The College’s accreditation for a baccalaureate degree in Health Care Administration: Concentration in Health Informatics and Information Management has been reaffirmed through 2026.
