EKU Graduate Builds Global Career in Fire Safety

Saad Sharba, ’99, envisions the future of fire safety as senior manager of emergency management and corporate safety at NEOM.

From Saudi Arabia, Sharba first came to Eastern Kentucky University (EKU) to study abroad. After meeting students and visiting a class, he decided to stay for EKU’s Fire Engineering program, where he discovered vast opportunities and a global network. Shortly after receiving his diploma from EKU, Sharba landed a position as a fire and safety officer at a major hospital in Saudi Arabia.

He continued to climb the ladder, working at a petrochemical company as a fire safety engineer. He spent 15 years with the oil company Aramco, rising from fire engineer to fire marshal, overseeing 11 stations and 300 members in the department.

“Now, I need to give back to my profession and the globe. I want to be an engine of change when it comes to the fire protection industry,” Sharba said.
