New Colonel’s Cupboard Location Provides Business Clothing for Students

Eastern Kentucky University’s (EKU) College of Business has opened a new Colonel’s Cupboard location, called Colonel’s Closet, in collaboration with The Berman Center for Professional Sales. This new location holds business professional and casual clothing for all students to come and get any business professional clothing they may need.

“As a university, our greatest responsibility is to ensure every student has the tools, support and opportunities they need to succeed,” said EKU President McFaddin. “This newest resource reflects our unwavering commitment to their future, because when our students thrive, our communities and our Commonwealth thrive with them.”

EKU’s main Colonel’s Cupboard location in the Powell Building provides a variety of resources to students who may need food or clothing.

“I believe Colonel’s Closet shows how deeply EKU students, staff and directors care about student success—not just in the classroom, but also in preparing them for their future careers,” said Colonel’s Closet Co-Manager Haley Ramales, senior marketing and risk management and insurance major from Shelbyville, Kentucky.

Cassie Davison, executive director of the Berman Center for Professional Sales, explained that EKU students have many opportunities for professional experience through conferences, study abroad programs, student organizations and events. The Colonel’s Closet was created to provide students with business professional and business casual clothing to wear for professional and networking opportunities.

“Our goal is to remove barriers, empowering students to feel confident and prepared as they take the next step in their professional journey. With this new location, professional attire is more accessible than ever, helping EKU students put their best foot forward,” said Davison.

The new Colonel’s Closet location can be found across the hall from the Berman Center in the Business and Technology Center in Room 008. It’s open Monday and Wednesday 11 a.m.-2 p.m. and Tuesday and Thursday 1-2 p.m.

The Colonel’s Closet is managed by students in a marketing internship class, who find donations and promote the closet, earning real-world experience. Maribeth Berman—who, along with her husband, Louis Berman, funded the establishment of the Berman Center for Professional Sales—visited with students managing the Closet, offering career advice and networking opportunities.

“I think it’s an incredible experience for the EKU College of Business and EKU in general to have Maribeth come in and see what we’re doing,” said Ramales. “It’s amazing to have an advocate for us to help us and guide us.”

The Berman Center for Professional Sales provides students with hands-on sales training, mentorship and career preparation. The center focuses on developing sales skills while offering sales competitions and partnerships with industry professionals.
