Curriculum & Enrollment


The certificate combines theory with practical coursework in artificial intelligence, machine learning, big data and data visualization. Students without equivalent programming coursework may also be required to complete CSC 801, Object-Oriented Programming.

Complete 12 credit hours: CSC 746 Artificial Intelligence; CSC 781 Machine Learning; CSC 782 Big Data; and CSC 783 Data Visualization. CSC 801 Object-Oriented Programming may also be required. The department evaluates prior programming coursework when a student is admitted.

Please review the admissions requirements before applying for this or any program. If you have questions about the program or are planning to register for classes, please speak to the program advisor.

The admissions requirements for applicants to the M.S. Computer Science program are as follows:

A baccalaureate degree* from an accredited institution with a minimum grade point average (GPA) of 2.5 overall, or 3.0 on the last 60 semester hours of the baccalaureate program.

One of the following:

  • Satisfactory scores on GRE or GMAT*. The minimum satisfactory GRE scores are 149 points of Quantitative. The minimum satisfactory GMAT scores are 37 points of Quantitative.
  • A bachelor’s, master’s or Ph.D. degree in science, technology, engineering or math with a GPA of at least 3.0.
  • An undergraduate precalculus course or equivalent mathematics background.

*A baccalaureate degree in computer science is not required for admissions. However, CSC 801 will be part of the degree requirements if a student has not completed equivalent programming course(s) before being admitted.
