The Department of Biological Sciences at Eastern Kentucky University offers many programs including bachelor of science degrees in biology, biology teaching, biomedical sciences and wildlife management. Our numerous concentrations for each area allow students to customize their degree programs in order to prepare them for their chosen career path. Biology (B.S.)
Our Bachelor of Science in Biology offers concentrations in general biology, aquatic biology, biodiversity and conservation, and biology teaching (high school). Biomedical Sciences (B.S.)
Our Biomedical Sciences’ degree program prepares students who wish to apply for professional schools such as dental, medical, optometry, physician assistant and veterinary schools. These professional schools and biomedical graduate programs typically require an undergraduate GPA of at least a 3.0; many require a 3.5 or higher GPA.
Students who wish to enter our biomedical sciences bachelor’s program must have a minimum Math ACT of 23 and a minimum English ACT of 20; once accepted, our biomedical students must maintain a 3.0 GPA or higher throughout the entirety of the program. Existing students must have a minimum GPA of 3.0 and maintain a 3.0 GPA or higher throughout the entirety of the program.
Incoming students who do not meet the admission requirements can start in the B.S. Biology degree and declare the Biomedical Science degree once they have passed College Algebra (MAT 112 or 114) and Reading, Writing, and Rhetoric (ENG 101) with Cs or better and achieved a minimum 3.0 GPA with at least 24 hours attempted. To declare the biomedical major, all continuing students (whether coming from the biology program or another specialty) must have a minimum GPA of 3.0 (24 hours or more attempted) and have passed College Algebra (MAT 112 or 114) and Reading, Writing, and Rhetoric (ENG 101) with Cs or better .
Most professional schools require specific course work that must be completed and an entrance exam to be eligible to apply. The College of Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics’ pre-professional advisor is available to help students through the application process and many other aspects of getting accepted at a professional school.

Wildlife Management (B.S.)
EKU’s Wildlife Management (B.S.) degree program offers students two concentrations – conservation management and game management. These programs prepare students for careers in preserving our natural resources and animal habitats.
