Why Study Social Work?

If you believe all people deserve dignity and respect, a career in social work might be a good fit for you. Social workers make a difference in people’s lives by advocating for children, families, and communities and trying to right social injustices.

The annual EKU Social Work Day marks the beginning of Social Work Month, which is sponsored by the National Association of Social Workers. EKU Social Work Day is a community service that provides free continuing education and professional networking opportunities primarily for social workers. We also honor members in our community who have been nominated and selected to win several awards.

Students and faculty involved in Social Work education at Eastern Kentucky University resolve to sponsor a chapter of Phi Alpha National Honor Society for Social Work. This chapter aims to foster high standards of educational achievement in the Social Work program. Students who have attained excellence of scholarship and distinction of achievement will be invited into membership of this chapter. The intention of this chapter is to create a personal connection among students and faculty who are dedicated to the promotion of humanitarian goals.
