Tutoring, Mentoring & Academic Success


Whether you need help overcoming learning challenges or to improve your overall academic performance, EKU offers a range of exceptional tutoring centers and opportunities to help you succeed. Tutoring is more than test prep, it builds good study habits, promotes critical thinking and fosters independent learning.

The Bratzke Student-Athlete Academic Success Center offers a variety of support services including mentoring, tutoring, study hall, academic progress monitoring and academic advising to help assist the more than 350 EKU student-athletes reach their full academic potential. The center offers a staff of academic advisors, tutors, and mentors working one on one with student-athletes to provide them support in their transition from high school to college and throughout their careers at EKU.

El Centro is a space for ALL students to create a community around success and academic achievement. A home away from home and a place to build relationships, El Centro offers bilingual tutoring and mentoring in multiple subjects and one-on-one language consultants for students interested in study abroad or professional development. We provide: tutoring, mentoring, study spaces, advising, digital whiteboard, and study supplies to help you achieve good grades.

Located in the Science Building Atrium, the Center for STEM Excellence offers free peer-to-peer drop-in tutoring, scheduled review sessions, skill-building workshops, and other resources for EKU students in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics courses and programs. Bring questions or come study in the Center and get help as needed. Study groups are welcome!

Located in the Powell Student Center, the Center for Student Involvement fosters connection, collaboration, and community for all students. This central hub includes the departments of Student Life & First-Year Experience (SL&FYE), Community & Global Engagement (CGE) and Fraternity & Sorority Life. Develop leadership skills, learn about and participate in campus and community events and service, meet new people and more.

The Center for Student Parents is a place to feel supported, accepted, and prepared for life as a parenting college student. Through guidance, academic support, advising, workshops, referrals, and employment opportunities, student parents can graduate and meet educational and personal goals.

The Student Success Center proudly offers the Chellgren Success Series, funded by an endowment generously provided by Paul and Debbie Chellgren. This programming includes workshops designed to support EKU students with all elements of college life including study skills, time management, choosing a major, scholarship information, metacognition and much more. All presentations are available by request. 

EKU Honors makes innovative, hands-on, and thought-provoking classes and resources available to motivated and creative students who want an in-depth college classroom experience with a strong grounding in an interdisciplinary, liberal arts education.

Whatever your major, you’ll take advantage of our small, innovative classes that can replace some of your general education and university requirements. Before you graduate as an Honors Scholar, you’ll complete an honors thesis on a topic of your choice.

EKU Libraries offers a wealth of resources and student support. We offer a vast collection of books, journals, multimedia resources and databases to aid in your studies, as well as dedicated study spaces, expert librarians, and technology to help you during your educational journey.

Located on the first floor of the Crabbe Library, the Student Success Center is designed to serve as a one-stop-shop where students can get assistance with an array of areas like course work, financial aid, study skills, choosing a major, course registration, stress management, and much more.

The Office of First-Year Courses & Learning Communities administers Student Success Seminars for all first-year students. Student Success Seminars include content about campus resources, study skills, critical thinking, and helping students find ways to get connected to the university during the transition to college. Eastern Kentucky University offers several variations of the seminar, depending upon a student’s major or special interests.

Located in Wallace 342, the Math and Statistics Tutoring Center offers walk-in tutoring, online tutoring, one-on-one dedicated help, personalized study plan strategies, practical tips and more. Tutoring sessions can be recorded so you can review them at any time, alongside robust online resources such as MAT course practice exams (including MAT 111, 112, 114, and 120).

Located in the Crabbe Library, the Noel Studio helps EKU students develop effective communication and writing skills through peer-to-peer meetings called consultations, which are available both in-person (on the EKU Richmond campus) and online (via Zoom). The Noel Studio also provides technology, spaces, and resources to help students complete their academic work.

Learning Accommodations


Center for Student Accessibility


The Center for Student Accessibility (CSA) assists students by coordinating campus and program accessibility and providing support in attaining educational goals. Services are individualized and may include academic adjustments that do not impede the academic integrity of the course, digital books, equipment loans, interpreters, note-taking software, testing accommodations, and other services. CSA is located in the Whitlock Building, Room 361. Appointments are made by calling (859) 622-2933 or emailing accessibility@eku.edu.

Pregnancy Accommodations


In compliance with Title IX of the Education Amendments of 1972, which states that institutions cannot discriminate against students who are pregnant, give birth, experience a false pregnancy, termination of pregnancy, miscarriage or recovery therefrom, EKU faculty and staff pledge to collaborate on a case-by-case basis with all students facing pregnancy and parenting issues.
