Join us for a memorial of 9/11 and a stair climb. We begin by remembering the tragic events of that day. Participants then pay tribute to those who fell that day, especially firefighters, paramedics, and other first responders by climbing the equivalent of the 110 stories of the World Trade Center. Participants individual tributes not only remember those who made the ultimate sacrifice, but it also symbolically completes their heroic journey to save others.
9/11 refers to four coordinated terrorist attacks carried out on the morning of September 11, 2001. Two planes crashed into the upper floors of the North and South Towers of the World Trade Center complex. A third plane crashed into the Pentagon in Arlington, Virginia. After learning about the other attacks, passengers on the fourth hijacked plane, Flight 93, fought the hijackers; the plane crashed into a field in western Pennsylvania, approximately 20 minutes by air from Washington, D.C. The Twin Towers ultimately collapsed. The attacks killed 2,977 people from 90 nations: 2,753 people were killed in New York; 184 people were killed at the Pentagon; and 40 people were killed on Flight 93. The effects of this attack are still being felt in 9/11-related illnesses and deaths.
