Guitar Ensemble

The EKU Guitar Ensemble is directed by Dr. Dennis Davis and features undergraduate and graduate guitarists. Featuring repertoire that spans from the Renaissance to the Modern Era, their performances have been broadcasted nationally on NPR and regionally on television and radio, including a full-length concert on the Red Barn Radio show. Performances outside of Kentucky include concert appearances at venues in Illinois, Ohio, North Carolina and Michigan. Their performances have garnered praise from world renown guitarists such as William Kanengiser, Joseph Hagedorn, and Marcin Dylla. Other notable performances include appearances at the Mid-America Guitar Ensemble Festival, the Frankfort Arts Foundation, pre-concert music for Pepe Romero (Centre College), the Barcelona Guitar Orchestra, and The Lexington Philharmonic Orchestra (Singletary Center for the Arts). Email Dr. Davis for more information or to schedule them for your next event.

The Guitar Ensemble divides into acoustic and electric performing groups and presents literature that spans from the Renaissance to the modern era. The members are pursuing degrees in either music performance, education, composition, or marketing. Their guitar education focuses on applied lessons, theory, history, literature, and pedagogy. The EKU Guitar Ensemble performs frequently to enthusiastic audiences at regional universities, secondary and elementary schools, civic groups, churches, and similar venues. The group can also divide into smaller assortments of quartets, trios, and duos, depending upon the demands of the engagement. Please email Dennis Davis at dennis.davis@eku.edu to schedule a performance or to learn more about our guitar program.

Non-majors can join by scheduling an audition. The ensemble meets as a class for four hours each week and students rehearse outside of class for five more hours (or as long as necessary). The Guitar Ensemble is a major ensemble and students earn one hour of academic credit per semester.
