Eastern Kentucky University’s Center for Career and Workforce Development will offer dozens of community education courses from January through June.

In addition to courses on the Richmond campus, the lineup includes several basket-weaving classes in Corbin, a “Mind and Body Tune-Up” course in Berea and a wide range of instructor-facilitated on-line courses through a partnership with Ed2Go (www.ed2go.com/eku).

EKU community education classes meet a wide variety of needs and interests among all ages and skill levels. Courses are scheduled in arts and crafts, healthy living, computers and technology, personal growth, recreation and exercise, and aquatics, in addition to summer reading programs. Many of the classes meet only once, while others meet over a period of several weeks. Most of the Richmond campus classes are held in the Perkins Building, on Kit Carson Drive, where public parking spaces are plentiful.

Pre-registration is required for all classes. To register, for more information or to obtain a brochure, call 859-622-1228 between 8 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. weekdays (closed noon-1 p.m. for lunch), or visit www.communityeducation.eku.edu to see the entire catalog and/or enroll online. EKU’s Community Education Office is located in Room 215 of the Perkins Building.

Individuals age 65 or older are entitled to enroll in any Community Education class, contingent on availability, free of charge, thanks to the O’Donnell Scholarship. The scholarship only covers tuition.

Arts and crafts classes include numerous basket-weaving options, as well as courses on watercolor painting and Beginning Painting for Kids.

Three “Healthy Living” classes are on tap: Balancing with the Weather, Essential Oils 101 and Power of Positivity. For EKU employees, the Healthy You! At EKU benefit will cover the cost of one Healthy Living class per semester, in addition to one recreation and exercise/aquatics course.

Computers and Technology courses include Introduction to the iPad, Computer Game Animation with Sensors, Navigating Your Smartphone, Introduction to Computers and Social Media and Internet Safety.

Personal Growth classes include Household Finances 101, Digital Photography (Basic to Intermediate and Advanced Creative Techniques), American Heart Association Heartsaver CPR AED and American Heart Association Heartsaver First Aid.

Institute of Reading Development summer reading programs are planned for all ages, beginning with four-year-olds.
