A doctorate in occupational therapy will be possible for more licensed OTs when Eastern Kentucky University launches a 100 percent-online bachelor’s-to-OTD degree path in Fall 2016. Occupational therapists will be able to complete the program in about three years, earning their master’s degree along the way.

According to the American Occupational Therapy Association (AOTA) website, EKU becomes one of only five schools in the nation to provide the transitional OTD program 100 percent online – with no required visits to campus.

“Having a clear path from the bachelor’s degree to the doctorate will help those in the field stay competitive,” said Dr. Dana Howell, EKU professor and coordinator of the EKU Online OTD program.

“Our OTD graduates are evidence-based practitioners who use research to enhance the delivery of care,” Howell added. “They advocate for their clients and the profession.”

Founded in 1976, the EKU Department of Occupational Science and Occupational Therapy is ranked by U.S. News & World Report for having one of the country’s best graduate programs for occupational therapy.

Benefits of the EKU Online OTD program include:

·         Accelerated eight-week terms, with courses beginning six times per year

·         Flexible, fully online program from a respected, accredited university

·         An approach that incorporates the AOTA Centennial Vision with assignments that can be tailored to a student’s specific area of interest

·         Supportive advising staff and expert faculty who will work with students from application through graduation
