Hummel Planetarium at Eastern Kentucky University will host two day camps for children in late July.

“Reach for the Stars” on Tuesday, July 24, will include hands-on activities focusing on stars, especially constellations. The guest speaker will be Dr. Mark Pitts, professor in EKU’s Department of Physics and Astronomy.

Then, on Tuesday, July 31, the planetarium will host “Over the Moon,” which will feature hands-on activities about the moon: its phases, rocks, textures and craters.

At both camps, which are designed for children ages 6-9, participants will enjoy a show and a star talk.

Each camp will run from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m., with check-in beginning at 8:15 a.m. The cost is $40 per child, to be paid at Hummel on the day of camp by cash, check or card. Lunch is provided; any child with dietary restrictions should bring his or her own lunch. Registration, including all the required waivers, is online at
