Eastern Kentucky University’s Department of Military and Veteran Affairs has several events planned next week to honor veterans in conjunction with Veterans Day.

On Monday, Nov. 11, the 2019 National Roll Call honors those who have served in the military, or are currently serving, as well as the fallen. The National Roll Call project is a grassroots effort to make Veterans Day on every campus a special time of appreciation and reflection.

Readers will begin reading names at 5:30 a.m., and will read until all of the names of our fallen soldiers from recent military conflicts have been recognized. The event takes place in the Powell Plaza.

Later that evening, beginning at 6 p.m., the Student Athletic Advisory Committee is sponsoring a 3-on-3 basketball tournament to benefit the Wounded Warrior Project.  The event will take place at the Campus Recreation Center and EKU student veterans will receive free admission.

On Thursday, Nov. 14, join the EKU Office of Military & Veteran Affairs and Rolling Thunder Kentucky Chapter 5 at 11 a.m. as Eastern Kentucky University dedicates a permanent POW*MIA Honor Chair in Roy Kidd Stadium as a reminder of our nation's heroes who made the ultimate sacrifice.

On Saturday, Nov. 16, come out to the tailgate and Military Appreciation Day. Join the OMVA, ROTC, and Rolling Thunder as we get ready to cheer on our EKU Colonels as they battle Tennessee Tech for the WIN!

Military Appreciation Day consists of a ceremony at Veterans Memorial, tailgating, a pre-game ceremony and public unveiling of the POW*MIA Honor Chair, as well as the Military Halftime Tribute where EKU recognizes its military service members and veterans as they walk onto the field at halftime behind their branch flags.

The Veterans Day Ceremony, hosted by ROTC, will begin at 9 a.m. at Veterans Memorial.  All veterans, EKU alumni, students, faculty, staff and members of the community are invited to attend.

Tailgating begins in the Alumni Coliseum lot at 9 a.m. Free food and drinks will be provided, along with live music, face painting, and cornhole. Come on out for a great time with friends!
