Hanna McQueary is the recipient of the 2020 Coca-Cola Scholarship. McQueary is a senior at Casey County High School and participates in Eastern Kentucky University’s Upward Bound program.

EKU Upward Bound assists students in various counties across eastern Kentucky who want to be a first-generation college student. Out of the 93,075 applications the Coca-Cola Scholars Foundation received, McQueary was one of 150 students nationwide to be awarded a $20,000 scholarship. She was recognized for extraordinary leadership in Upward Bound, Casey County High School, and her community.

Hanna plans to pursue degrees in both psychology and criminal justice to reach her ultimate goal of obtaining a Ph.D. and working for the Federal Bureau of Investigation or the Central Intelligence Agency.  After being accepted into ten post-secondary institutions, she has decided to become an EKU Colonel for the Fall 2020 semester. The Coca-Cola Scholars Program scholarship is an achievement-based scholarship awarded to graduating high school seniors. Students are recognized for their capacity to lead and serve, as well as their commitment to making a significant impact on their schools and communities. With the 31st class in 2019, the Foundation has provided more than 6,150 Coca-Cola Scholars with more than $69 million in educational support. One hundred fifty Coca-Cola Scholars are selected each year to receive this $20,000 scholarship.

“Hanna’s exemplary leadership skills, hard work, and a positive attitude made her a top contender for this most generous and competitive award.  We are extremely proud of her accomplishments,” said Tamara Stewart, Director of EKU Upward Bound.
