Club Sports Guide

EKU Club Sports

The goal of EKU Competitive sports is to provide and safe, fun, and welcoming environment for the students, faculty, and staff of Eastern Kentucky University. Competitive Sports seeks to accomplish this through education of student employees and sport club team members in conflict management, professionalism, time management, and leadership; while also offering a wide range of inclusive sports following current state and national trends via NIRSA.

The Club Sports Program is designed to provide opportunities for students with similar interests to participate in various sports or recreational activities. Each club is organized by students and is student governed with assistance from Campus Recreation. Clubs are designed primarily for undergraduate students, but graduate students and faculty/staff can participate with the approval of the club. Club Sports are committed to providing an inclusive community. Through competition and skill development, lifelong relationships are built while emphasizing healthy lifestyles.

We currently sponsor 18 registered student organizations, that are identified by Campus Recreation as Club Sports. Our clubs are all self-governed and operate with funding from team fundraising and Student Government Association (SGA) allocations. Most clubs hold tryouts during the fall and spring semesters. For more information on a particular club, contact Douglas Ream at douglas.ream@eku.edu.

How to Form a New Sport Club

All Club Sport athletes must register with ENGAGE and the Office of Student Life each fall and complete the online waiver prior to participating in their sport. Members added throughout the year must register on ENGAGE prior to participation. In addition, players must also submit a copy of their health insurance card. For detailed information on forming a new sport club, please refer to the Club Sports Manual.

Club Sports Forms

The incident/injury report form should be filled out if there was an injury or incident during a club event. If a player is injured at a competition or practice or if there are any issues during a team event or competition (sportsmanship issues, issues with the other team, logistics issues), this is the form to report it.

The Post-Travel report form should be completed within 48 hours of returning to campus, providing results of the competition.

Complete this form to request a home competition. This request needs to occur at least 14 days prior to the competition. This form must be filled out by any club who is hosting an event, even if it is not on campus.

When a home competition is cancelled, complete this form as soon as the club is notified of the cancellation.
