Colonels Camp FAQ

What is Colonel’s Camp?

Colonel’s Camp is Campus Recreation’s weeklong camp session for children in Kindergarten through Sixth Grade. In addition to experiencing the Student Recreation Center and the EKU, children will participate in a variety of activities each week.

Why Colonel’s Camp at Eastern Kentucky University?

The overall mission of Colonel’s Camp is to provide children development opportunities of transferable skills, such as communication, teamwork, listening, and critical thinking while exploring all forms of recreation and having fun at the same time. Children are encouraged to participate in each activity and effectively work together.

When is Colonel’s Camp?

This summer, there will be 7 different weeks of Colonel’s Camp: June 5th – 9th / June 12th – June 16th / June 19th – 23rd / June 26th – 30th / July 10th – 14th / July 17th – 21st / July 24th – 28th.

What are the standard hours of Colonel’s Camp?

Colonel’s Camp is Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Drop-off begins at 7:30 a.m. and pick-up begins at 4:30 p.m.

Is Before and/or After Care available?

Yes. Both Before and After Care are available for an additional cost. Before Care, which is from 7 a.m. – 7:30 a.m., is $30 per week. After Care, which is from 5 p.m. – 5:30 p.m., is $30 per week. If both are needed, the cost is $50 per week.

Can I register my child(ren) for 1 day of Colonel’s Camp?

A daily or shortened option of Colonel’s Camp is available. Please contact Ryan Fisher for more information, including pricing.

Can I only register for Colonel’s Camp online?

While online registration is encouraged, in-person registration is an option and can be done at the Front Desk of the Student Recreation Center. Please contact Ryan Fisher to register in person.

What forms do I need to complete to register my child(ren)?

Required forms, including the waiver, are included in the registration process if done online. If registering in person, a hard copy will be provided to complete.

What forms of payment are accepted for registration?

For online registration, all major credit and debit cards are accepted. For in-person registration, cash, check, and all major credit and debit cards are accepted. Checks need to be made out to Eastern Kentucky University.

Can I get a refund if my child(ren) is unable to come?

Illness, injury, or other extenuating circumstances documented by a physician or accredited third party may be directed to Ryan Fisher for consideration of a refund. These requests will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis and may or may not be awarded.

How do I add someone to the Emergency Contact and/or Authorized Pickup Person list?

If you would like to make any edits to either list, please contact Ryan Fisher.

Where do I drop-off and pick-up my child(ren)?

Drop-off and pick-up will be at the Front Desk of the Student Recreation Center. Parking is available in the roundabout. Colonel’s Camp staff will be outside each day to assist.

Where is the Student Recreation Center?

The Student Recreation Center is located on the campus of Eastern Kentucky University, next to the Whitlock Building and behind Alumni Coliseum. The physical address of the facility is 228 Park Drive.

Can I drop off my child(ren) late and pick them up early?

Yes. Please contact Ryan Fisher to make any necessary arrangements for the week.

Are the children separated into groups based on their age?

While the children will be together for some portions of the day, they will be separated by age and/or grade during some activities.

What is the staff breakdown for Colonel’s Camp?

The Colonel’s Camp Counselors are all current EKU students. For every 10 children, there will be one counselor. Depending on the activity or field trip, additional counselors may be scheduled. While swimming, lifeguards will be on duty. All staff are CPR, AED, and First Aid certified.

What should my child(ren)wear to Colonel’s Camp each day?

Comfortable and athletic clothing is recommended to wear, such as a t-shirt and shorts. In addition, close-toe athletic footwear is recommended.

Does my child(ren) need to bring any additional clothing?

Children are encouraged to bring a light jacket or sweatshirt in the event of cooler temperatures. On swimming days, children should bring a swimsuit and towel. These days will be highlighted in the weekly schedule.

Is equipment provided for Colonel’s Camp?

Yes. Colonel’s Camp provides the equipment for each activity.

Is lunch provided?

Lunch and a snack should be brought each day, as there will be a designated time for both. Lunch boxes will be stored in the refrigerator as needed. For some field trips lunch will be provided. Information will be sent out prior to each field trip.

Should my child(ren) bring any personal items?

Personal items, such as electronics, toys, and books should not be brought to Colonel’s Camp. The activities scheduled throughout the week are intended to keep the children engaged and active.

What activities should I expect my child(ren) to participate in while at Colonel’s Camp?

Each week of Colonel’s Camp will include a variety of activities both inside and outside that include sports, games, crafts, rock climbing, swimming, educational sessions, field trips, and more.
