License Types and FAQs

Whether you are a university employee looking to buy promotional items or a business that wants to manufacture EKU-branded swag, here’s what you need to know about the various license types:

Internal

A business holding an Internal license can produce products bearing the trademarks of the institution for university departments and related entities for internal consumption only. This license cannot be used to provide products at retailers directly to consumers.

Retail

A business holding a retail license can produce products bearing the trademarks of the institution for sale at retail in approved channels. This can be done directly to consumers, university departments and related entities.

Crafters

This license may produce 500 units or less during a contract year with sales not exceeding $2,500. Licensees that will exceed these limits should apply for a Retail License. Distribution is limited to direct-to-consumer sales.

FAQs

Are there branding guidelines available?

Yes! You can review the university’s Brand Guide, and feel free to consult with the Office of Communications and Brand Management about your design prior to ordering your product. All designs used in representation of the EKU Brand must be compliant with the brand guide and approved by the Office of Communications and Brand Management prior to any production.

I'm looking to order promotional items for our program. What vendor should I use?
You can find a list of approved vendors posted here. If you find that the items you’re looking to purchase cannot be met by any of these vendors, please contact EKU Purchasing department on next steps.
I’m a campus employee. What is the process for ordering promotional items?
The process is simple:

  1. We encourage you to work with an approved campus vendor. This list is posted online. Once you’ve identified your product and vendor, you can utilize the brand guide to help develop the design with the vendor.
  2. When the vendor has developed an artwork proof or mockup of the design, you can submit a CBM approval request form to obtain approval for the purchase order.
  3. Once CBM has provided an approval response in regards to your request, you can move forward with your order with the vendor and purchase order.

For reference, this CBM approval process document can help explain each step and expectations.
