Noel Studio 9 Request a Noel Studio Workshop, Orientation/Presentation, or Toolkit

Request a Noel Studio Workshop, Orientation/Presentation, or Toolkit

In-person workshops, orientations, and presentations are scheduled through the Noel Studio Workshop Request. Faculty will be asked to sign in using their standard EKU credentials.

The Noel Studio prefers to schedule facilitated workshops at least two weeks in advance. Request approval is dependent on facilitator and space availability. Please allow 3-5 business days for a response. Requests sent during weekends, closures, or University holidays may receive slower response times. The Noel Studio cannot accommodate requests for Friday workshops due to staffing patterns and training needs.

Designing & Creating Infographics

In this workshop, students will learn the basic elements of infographics, their purpose and how they can be used, as well as some guiding principles of design. Students will also put these ideas into practice with a group exercise. Does your class meet online instead of in-person? You can request Online Materials!

Designing Research Posters

In this workshop, students will learn the basic elements of research posters, their purpose and how they are used, how they should be designed and organized, and what kind of information they should include. Students will put these ideas into practice with a group exercise. Does your class meet online instead of in-person? You can request Online Materials!

Developing & Delivering Oral Presentations

In this workshop, students will learn the basic steps in creating and delivering a speech. Students will participate in a brief lesson on brainstorming for speeches, finding research, using visuals, and delivery. After, the facilitator will guide the class through a brief, fun speech exercise to practice public speaking. Does your class meet online instead of in-person? You can requestOnline Materials!

Developing & Refining a Creative Topic

In this workshop, students will crowdsource their topics with a collaborative brainstorming activity facilitated by a Noel Studio Consultant. Instructors are invited to join the fun by mingling with groups in Noel Studio spaces outside of the Discovery Classroom. Does your class meet online instead of in-person? You can request Online Materials!

Generative Brainstorming

In this workshop, students will be divided into small groups and have the opportunity to externalize their ideas. This scaffolded brainstorming session allows students to ideate then refine ideas with help from their peers and a Noel Studio facilitator. During the workshop, students will go from the “loose concept” phase to having a thesis statement and be able to begin outlining.

Intro to Citation & Documentation

In this workshop, students will receive a general overview of APA, MLA, or Chicago/Turabian and hands-on practice in developing reference entries through a team-based citation activity. Does your class meet online instead of in-person? You can request Online APA Materials or Online MLA Materials!

Thesis Statements

In this workshop, students will learn what makes an effective thesis statement, why thesis statements are important, and how to construct a strong thesis statement. After, the facilitator will lead a class activity to develop and identify strong thesis statements. Does your class meet online instead of in-person? You can request Online Materials!

Introduce your students to the Noel Studio’s services by scheduling a Noel Studio Presentation (a Noel Studio representative visits your classroom for a 10-15 minute overview) or a Noel Studio Orientation (bring your class to us for a 20-30 minute guided tour and overview). Due to scheduling and training needs, the Noel Studio cannot accommodate requests for Presentations or Orientations during the first TWO WEEKS of the semester. Does your class meet online instead of in-person? You can request orientation/presentation materials!

Active Learning Toolkits

Audience Awareness [Active Learning Toolkit]

This Active Learning Toolkit will help students understand how the audience impacts their language and style choices when writing or speaking.

Peer Review

This Active Learning Toolkit guides students through analyzing a prompt, examining the success of a draft, and offering feedback for revision. Instructors may use either student drafts or sample papers to discuss and practice effective strategies for peer reviews.

Synthesizing Sources [Active Learning Toolkit]

This Active Learning Toolkit guides students in using sources to practice identifying points of a debate and organize them into a cohesive argument.

Co-designed Assignment Support

Not sure what you need and/or don’t see an existing workshop module or resource that fits your needs? The Noel Studio can work with you to adapt our workshops, toolkits, and resources to meet assignment, course, and/or discipline needs, or to co-design new ways to support your assignments and students. If you’d like to work with the Noel Studio to design a tailored approach to a specific lesson or topic, contact the Noel Studio directly at noelstudio@eku.edu

Once we receive your email, a member of the Noel Studio team will initiate a discussion about student needs and learning outcomes. Together, we will identify challenges and possible solutions, which could include (but are not limited to) a Noel Studio-facilitated remote workshop, an instructor-facilitated workshop, modifications to an existing assignment, recommended consultations for students, and/or a co-created resource (handout, worksheet, video, etc.).
